Catch of the Day: March 16, 2011 Vintage Boho Cocoon Jacket

I'm rather in love with today's Catch.  After thumbing fruitlessly through the pages of eBay searching for inspiration, I was - at last - rewarded with this gem:

Created in lovely shades of gossamer green, blue, purple, black and a hint of gold, this lovely Cocoon Dolman Jacket is just the right weight to keep you warm against the chill of an early spring night, and just the right look to keep you hot no matter what the weather.

Seen from the back, the sheerness of the fabric is accentuated by the model's bare shoulders, and the just-right-slant-of-light reveals the gold hidden among the black threads.  I adore the drape of the fabric, and the cut is such that this jacket could grace the shoulders of any sized woman.

Catch of the Day: February 15, 2011 White Minimalist Watch

This incredibly charming and classic white minimalist watch bv Ronica has swiss parts and floating rhinestones is up for sale on Sense of Fashion. It is in working order and the battery was recently replaced. The floating rhinestones add an air of modernism and minimalism.  It is simple and it is stunning.

I love that the rhinestones move with you. I love the mother of pearl face of the watch itself, and I love the four delicate rhinestones inserted into the 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock. Every medical professional reading will love that it has a second hand.

Catch of the Day: February 14, 2011 60's Nieman Marcus Jacket Dress

This lovely 1960s Jacket Dress from Nieman Marcus was found up for Auction on eBay. Made of gold, ivory and champagne colored silk brocade. So very Mad Men! It would be a perfect outfit for Betty, though I think Joan would rather burst through it!  

The jacket's geometric pattern is offset by a timeless floral, together they form something chic and memorable. The jacket closes with three cloth covered buttons. The sleeves are bracelet length, such a practical length and one I would rejoice to see resurrected. The classic collar stands up beautifully, and forms a perfect backdrop for the swept up hairdos of the times.  

The simple A-Line sheath dress beneath the jacket is so very Jackie-0! It's classic tailoring includes princess sleeves and a well concealed back zipper. Both jacket and dress are fully lined in ivory organdy.  

Such an elegant ensemble could only be found at an establishment like Nieman Marcus, and indeed, it still bears it's Nieman's label. "The set looks like it were worn once for a special occasion."  There is a faint stain in the under arm of the lining of the jacket, which the seller believes will come out with dry cleaning.  Please remember this is in the lining,  the outside of the garment is in mint condition, and retains its refined and elegant quality today as much as it did when it first hit the rack in the early 1960's. I would consider this garment appropriate to a dinner at the white house or an evening at the metropolitan opera.

Offered by covettedcastoffs for a starting bid of $100.00.  If it goes at anywhere near that price, someone will have gotten a true bargain, as this is a dress which is so stylish and well made that it should see you through several decades and only gain in it's chic.

Catch of the Day: January 31st 2011 60's Suit

If there's anything I love more than a good jacket, it's the completion of that jacket, or - in other words - a great suit. This 1960's suit is just smashing. It's a nice inky black wool with simply stunning over-sized buttons and the most amazing pop-print lining (pictures to follow). I am so in love with the lining of this suit, that I would almost consider that to be reason enough to buy it. 

Would you look at those buttons?  Made of plastic, they are in the most wonderful "knot" pattern.  If anything ever happens to the suit, promise me you will save these buttons. They don't make buttons like this anymore.

And this is the lining!  My God!  Can you imagine!  How much fun to leave the jacket open just a touch so every now and again, someone can catch a glimpse of that.  There is the slightest indication of wear in the lining, but then again, it is just lining.

Beyond the slight imperfections of the lining, the suit is in impeccable vintage condition.  There are no stains, no tears, no odors, and no unraveling.  My only bad news (and it's only bad for me) is that it's a size 2/4 (modern sizing!).
