Catch of the Day: January 25th 2011

This stunning 1920’s handbag is covered in luscious steel cut beads. This handmade purse must represent the investment of hours of some young flappers life. I only hope we can honor her craft today.  Found on eBay,  the frame of this lovely purse is transitional between Art Nouveau and Art Deco, and the seller, Ambrasattic, may be correct in classifying it as Victorian rather than Jazz Age.  I hear “steel cut beads” and my mind immediately goes to flapper.

The bottom of the purse is lined in fringe made of those steel cut beads, and no expense was spared in making this fringe lavish. The inside of the purse is so immaculately clean that its uncertain the handbag was ever used.

The only condition issue the seller was able to find was that the fabric is separating from the frame in a few areas, something any competent seamstress could fix.  The bidding closes this evening, and as the time of this writing, 3 bids have been made with the price currently at $51.00.

A lovely handbag to make a lovely lady very happy, or perhaps to reside in someone’s vintage display.

That’s today’s find kittens.  Happy Shopping!
